Crafting Shamisen in the Cold

It’s very cold these days. In cold weather, my music teacher likes to build and repair Shamisen. The instrument that I study is called the Shamisen, and it’s a traditional Japanese instrument. They have three bright yellow strings and we play them by hitting them with a big thing called a “bachi“. It kind of looks like a rice scoop. I’ve been studying Shamisen for several years now, and my music teacher says that when it comes to shamisen, the winter is the best season to build, repair, and play. This is because the air is less humid and the wood is as small as it’s going to get.
